The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, or ASME for short, is a private organization with members from the US and around the world. They develop standards and codes used in mechanical engineering and other fields, in addition to promoting certification and other activities. Issuing boiler standards as early as 1914, the ASME has since issued standards for pressure vessels, nuclear power plant devices and many other applications. Those standards have been adopted in the laws of many states in the US and are the foundation for technical standards in many countries. In Japan also, they serve as a technical basis for the Electricity Business Act, Industrial Safety and Health Act, and the High Pressure Gas Safety Act, among other laws. In this way, while ASME standards are independent, they are also hold authority in the US and the world at large.
As a measure to improve quality, Takenaka obtained quality system certification for fasteners for nuclear power in 2010.
